I’ve decided to do a super quick post on this, as I’ve had a couple of clients ask me how to do this recently. Now apart from the obvious way of changing your desktop image through the System Preferences pane in OSX – you can actually do it direct from iPhoto, an option which they would do well to add to the right click menu, but they haven’t … yet anyway.
Ok, so here goes, in iPhoto, find the picture you’d like to use. (If you choose an event instead of a single photo, it’ll automatically set your desktop image to change every thirty minutes.) Click to select it, and then choose the menu item Share > Set Desktop.

That’s all there is to it. Told you this was a quick post!
